Choose You This Day

Valentine’s Day 2015 has arrived and with it comes an important moral choice for the Church.  Fifty Shades of Grey is poised to surpass The Passion of the Christ in box office sales for a February opening weekend.  Are we going to allow the consumption of such filth without response, or are we going to stand for righteousness and offer an example of a better way to live?  Christians who consume Fifty Shades of Grey for entertainment and apologize for (defend) its content should be shamed in a gentle, loving way with an eye towards reconciliation (II Corinthians 5:18).  Any redeeming qualities in this film will not overcome its filthy content.  As brothers and sisters in Christ, we should gently remind our siblings of:
 –
Psalms 101:1-4
1 I will sing of your love and justice; to you, Lord, I will sing praise.
2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life—when will you come to me? I will conduct the affairs of my house with a blameless heart.
3 I will not look with approval on anything that is vile. I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it.
4 The perverse of heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with what is evil.

and also:

Philippians 4:8-9 (MSG)
Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.
perrywitch3The reason why America is on its way to moral suicide is because Christians are avid consumers of the morally-bankrupted culture.  From enjoying half-time shows of “wardrobe malfunctions” (or Justin Timberlake’s sexual assault on Janet Jackson) and songs of girls kissing girls, to viewing readily-accessible pornographic images in the privacy of your own phone and mindlessly watching endless hours of television, Netflix, and Disney movies while the Bible sits on the shelf or wherever it is because I can’t remember what I did with it once I brought it home from church on Sunday.

Wake up, brothers and sisters.  Perversion is in our neighborhoods, on our doorsteps, knocking on our doors, entering our houses through the airwaves, through our children’s smartphones, in their school backpacks.

THIS PERVERSION DOES NOT WANT TO ENTERTAIN US. IT WANTS TO KILL US.

Men, you are the gateway for perversion to enter your household.  The devil wants to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).  Satan has to bind the strongman of the house before he can spoil the house (Matthew 12:29).  Some of us have simply hidden in the closet, binding ourselves while Satan runs roughshod over our families.

Men, it’s time to be the guardians of our families.  It’s time to reclaim our role of priests of our homes.  It’s time to be the spiritual leader and hero.  It’s time to grab your Sword and Shield (Ephesians 6:16-17).  When you have done everything you can, continue to stand (Ephesians 6:13).

Joshua 24:14-15
14 “Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.

15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Proverbs 28:1
The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

Men, we have a choice in front of us, whether to serve our own lusts and let the Devourer destroy our families. Or to submit to the One, True, and Holy God.

There is no more time to hide in our closets.  Now is the time to choose for our families that WE WILL SERVE THE LORD!
